Plywood, PVC and Birthday Cake: A Ramp Yard BBQ Celebration!

Plywood, PVC and Birthday Cake: A Ramp Yard BBQ Celebration!

words and video by Jon Hanks

What was your 21st birthday like? Or maybe you haven’t had it yet… Mine was pretty cool. I had  bunch of close friends gather to grill and drink beer in the backyard of my parents’ home. We played lawn games, smoked a little weed and I had a really great time. One thing I didn’t have however was a miniramp in my backyard, much less a mammoth mini with all kinds of crazy features that actually WAS my backyard. Or a twin brother whom also skated and ripped like I did and so many other solid rippers around, creating a vibrant and amazing diy skate scene based around my backyard, all with my parents’ blessing (not to mention nearly force feeding anyone that came by the house with snacks beverages and cake!!)

Joe and Josh (both 21) had all of these things at their birthday party recently at “Ramp Yard” in Auburn, WA. The twins and their homie Jacob have been working on their exuberant backyard Frankenstein paradise for the past three years, and on the brothers’ birthday, they extended an open invitation to all skateboarders to come and shred and have some birthday cake!!

Happy 21st and thanks again to the twins and their amazing and hospitable family, Jacob, and all the Ramp Yard rippers, new friends and familiar faces. Here’s to many more sessions! (and some cake for the road!)
